How can I be sure my school is accredited by an agency that meets CHEA criteria?
To be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation, an accrediting agency must comply with its standards. CHEA keeps the public abreast of any major decisions regarding accreditation or reviews of accreditation, and any revisions made to its Recognition Policy and Procedures are updated on their website. Additionally, you can search CHEA's database for its list of recognized accrediting agencies. Many of the agencies recognized by CHEA are also recognized by the Department of Education, but CHEA also has an international directory where you can search for institutions and accrediting agencies outside of the United States.
